22-day Residential Program offering the “Closed Group” Model

“Closed Group” model:
To truly appreciate the extraordinary value of the Closed Group therapeutic system, one needs to understand the dynamics of the traditional “revolving door admission” approach. The revolving door system is the most accepted and practiced form of residential treatment program modality. The “revolving door” system allows clients to enter into treatment at any time. The clients in traditional revolving door settings need to adapt to different clients entering and leaving, often on a daily basis, thus constantly changing the group dynamic. In a revolving door setting client bonding, group cohesion and program flow and design are sacrificed for ease of admission.
Chatsworth Pavilion offers a unique “Closed Group” model as it is dedicated to providing the most effective treatment program.
At Chatsworth Pavilion, the “Closed Group” residential setting nurtures the development of the Therapeutic-Alliance. This very important bond between clients and peers is also greatly enhanced as we accept no more than 6 clients per session. This small group design combined with the ratio of at most 3 clients per counselor further strengthens the bond between clients and counselors.
What makes the “Closed Group” model so effective?
The “Closed Group” program allows a group of clients to start and finish their residential treatment at the same time. The “Closed Group” model allows the therapeutic team at Chatsworth Pavilion to design a sequenced flow of content and schedules. The “Closed Group” setting allows us to maximize program effectiveness by harmonizing therapeutic components such as didactic presentations and lectures, individual counseling, group therapy, experiential workshops and process groups.

At Chatsworth Pavilion the “Closed Group” model allows for greater bonding between clients. This deeper level of bond and familiarity add immensely to the quality of treatment as emotional safety and understanding are not impaired and disturbed by new members injecting their “newcomer’s needs” into the group dynamic.
Intensive interactional group therapy exerts its chief therapeutic power through interpersonal learning. The “Closed Group” model allows for a greater group cohesion to be developed. The resulting emotional safety allows clients to develop a deeper level of trust with their peers therefore facilitating breakthroughs in self-discovery and self-awareness.
3 clients per counselor is the maximum case load at Chatsworth Pavilion.
Maximized Therapeutic-Alliance combined with limited group size, allows us to offer a superior quality of treatment:
Studies have shown Therapeutic-Alliance to be the most important component in any treatment program. This alliance encompasses both the bond between client and counselor, as well as the bond between the client and peers. Beyond the therapeutic modalities used at a treatment center, this alliance is the single most important component, contributing to long lasting and successful treatment.

Chatsworth Pavilion has chosen to place an emphasis on providing the most individualized care within a group setting. Each client receives the care and attention needed to make their recovery process as effective as possible. We understand the true value of “Therapeutic-Alliance”. At Chatsworth Pavilion the quality of client/counselor interactions allow for each client to be heard, understood, feel validated and empowered as they undertake the process of change and healing. Trust in the process, in others and in self, which are crucial to peer-bonding, to shifts in self-perceptions and to a sense of spiritual connection, are enhanced by the emotional security derived from being a part of a consistent group of people over a 22-day period. Furthermore, an uninterrupted extended stay in a safe place, away from the “old environment” associated with the old self-defeating behavioral patterns, allows for the body and the psyche to acquire new habits more easily. Interacting with the same peers sanely, receiving and giving help, proves to the client the trustworthiness of a recovery support group as well as the client’s own trustworthiness. As the entire group cohesively moves through the program together bonded in trust, the learning process is enhanced.
At Chatsworth Pavilion small, “Closed Groups” and carefully crafted coursework systematically maximize every opportunity for clients successful long term recovery, personal growth and transformation.
After-care
The best treatment outcome is experienced when there is a joining together of: psychotherapy, 12 Step fellowship support, and structured aftercare. At Chatsworth Pavilion special attention is paid to aftercare needs. Appointments are scheduled with referring professionals and, as required, suggested health care professionals in the client’s home town, and appointments scheduled prior to the client’s discharge. As well, a life-management plan, including active participation in 12-Step fellowships, will be created in collaboration with clients to address their individual needs upon leaving our center.
Phase I
Phase 1 “Pre-Program Option” is offered during the 5 days prior to each scheduled “Closed Group” session (see Fees & Session Dates). During this 5 day period client may arrive at anytime. This component was developed to better address our clients’ individual needs. Clients participate in Phase I most commonly as a result of an intervention, or a clinical evaluation recommending a stabilization period which greatly enhances the client’s treatment experience, and better prepares them for the intensive “Closed Group” program. Whether the clients arrive the full 5 days prior to “Closed Group” or only 2 or3 days they will be welcomed into a structured program with individual and group counseling. This program, while structured, is not as intense as the Closed Group program they will be joining. The Phase 1 is offered at an additional fee of $650CAD per day.
